As a Remote Pilot you will use a range of information and resource platforms to conduct operational planning. Here we have provided our definitive list of the most suitable resources.

CAA DMARES

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Drone and Model Aircraft Registration and Education Service (DMARES) is the portal used to register a drone above 250g or has a camera attached in order to obtain an Operator's Identification Number. A Flyer Identification Number is also issued on completion of the mandatory online training and assessment.

CAA Operational Authorisation Online Application Portal

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Operational Authorisation application portal is used to apply for a new or renew an Operational Authorisation.

CAA SkyWise

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) SkyWise website and App provides news, safety alerts and regulation amendments relevant to both general aviation and UAS.

NATS Aeronautical Information Service 

The National Air Traffic Service Aeronautical Information Service (NATS AIS) is a portal which is used to obtain Air Traffic Control contact information, check NOTAM and obtain information pertinent to Danger, Restricted and Prohibited Areas within the UK via the Electronic Aeronautical Information Package (eAIP).

NATS Enhanced/ Non-Standard Flight Application

The National Air Traffic Service Enhanced/ Non-Standard Flight Application is required to obtain authorisation to operate in London and other areas where an NSF or ENSF is required.

CAP2038A00 - Air Navigation Order 2016

CAP 2038A00 contains the ANO 2016 which details pertinent information for the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems. In particular, articles 240 and 241 are relevant.

CAP 722 - Unmanned Aircraft System Operations in UK Airspace - Guidance & Policy

CAP 722 is a significant document for understanding all aspects of Unmanned Aircraft systems operations. CAP 722A, CAP722B and CAP722C should also be read in conjunction.

CAP722C - UAS Airspace Restrictions Guidance and Policy

CAP 722C describes the guidance and policy on the use of airspace restrictions to either facilitate, or restrict, UAS operations. This CAP provides initial guidance, and signposts readers to other policy documents and processes where necessary.

Website CAP 382 - Mandatory Occurrence Reporting Scheme (MORS)

CAP 382 should be referred to for information on Reportable Occurrences, Accidents, Serious Incidents and AIRPROX.

CAP 1789A - The EU UAS Implementing Regulation: Consolidated text

CAP 1789A provides readers with a consolidated version of the text within the EU UAS Implementing Regulation (Regulation [EU] 2019/947). It combines all the amendments into a single version for reference.


ECCAIRS

The European Coordination Centre for Accident and Incident Reporting Systems is an EASA portal used to submit Reportable Occurrences.

Military Low Flying

The .gov Military Low Flying website provides information of both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft low flying throughout the UK.

UK Military Aeronautical Information Publication

The UK Military AIP is used to obtain data specifically for Military Aerodromes.

UK Airprox Board

The UK Airprox Board (UKAB) website is used to file an airprox report, and analyse historical reports and data.


Drone Safety Map

Drone Safety Map and the Guardian app provides digital aeronautical charts for the United Kingdom and enables flight planning, airspace hazard and other airspace user identification. User generated flight reports can also be posted to notify other app users of an intended flight.

Sky Demon Light

Sky Demon Light provides digital aeronautical charts for the United Kingdom and enables flight planning, airspace hazard and other airspace user identification. Although Sky Demon Light also displays Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), this is not verified for accuracy and therefore, NATS AIS is the recommended NOTAM platform.

EasyVFR Basic UK Edition

EVFR Basic provides digital aeronautical charts for the United Kingdom and enables flight planning, airspace hazard and other airspace user identification. EVFR is a suitable alternative to Sky Demon Light for Android users.

Soarizon

Soarizon is a drone management and operational planning platform which can be used to significantly reduce the burden of operational planning by pulling data autonomously from a range of reliable sources.

Magic Maps

Magic Maps provides a range of map overlays including Ordnance Survey with data layers from organisations such as Natural England, Defra, Environment Agency, Historic England, Forestry Commission and Marine Management Organisation.

Bing Maps

Bing Maps provides a range of map overlays including satellite imagery, ordnance survey and streetside view.

Grid Reference Finder

Grid Reference Finder provides the ability to search a location by post code, grid reference, latitude and longitude or What3Words. It also features a variety of tools and can also be used to measure distance.

LatLong

LatLong provides the ability to convert decimal latitude and longitude to Degrees, Minutes and Second (DMS).

What3Words

What3Words designates any location on the globe using 3 unique words with a 3m accuracy. This is becoming increasingly popular for organisations including the Emergency Services because of it's ease of communication and accuracy.


Met Office

The Met Office website and apps provide reliable weather forecasting for the UK. The information is easy to read and understand, and also provides information relevant for operations.

Windy

Windy is an alternative weather forecasting platform which uses a range of weather models to forecast and present comprehensive and reliable information.

UAV Forecast

UAV Forecast provides relevant meterological data for UAS once configured to the users specific aircraft operational envelope.


Information Commissioner's Office

The Information Commissioner's Office website provide useful information regarding the legislation which governs the use of camera equipment in public places. This includes the use of any Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS).

Land Registry

The Land Registry can be used to find information about property ownership for England & Wales.

NHS Choices

The NHS choices website provides a useful tool for obtaining local medical services by searching by postcode.

Find your local Council

The .Gov website provides a tool for finding the a local Council for an operating site that you're unfamiliar with.

Health & Safety Executive

The .Gov HSE website provides guidance on Risk Management.

The OfCOM mobile signal check website and app provide information relevant to the likely signal at any given area within the UK.
